If you've had even one semi-in-depth conversation with me, you would know that I enjoy quilting of the crazy nature.
My parents just got back from a road trip through much of the South and on their week long journey stopped off at my Granddad's in Charleston, WV. A treasure was uncovered and upon admiration from my mom, the 150 year old antique crazy quilt was generously given to her. This is exciting for many reasons:
1) My great grandmother touched these pieces of fabric, they meant something to her, and she stiched them all by hand
2) I love old stuff
3) Crazy quilting is written into my DNA
4) I really, really love old stuff
5) It's being passed down...hmm....

I've been known to say these words to a poor misguided college girl or two with white satin and rhinestones on the brain. Without even a man in the picture, I guess it just drives me a bit nuts to see bright women spending so much time on something that hasn't even happened yet. I'm talking seven consecutive months of Bride Magazine on the coffee table (pages dog earred), pictures of the wedding bouquets that made it to the final selection round, and cake samples in the freezer.
Yes, fine, call me unromantic, but you'd be wrong. I'm just as romantic as the next guy ( or girl), maybe even more so. I just think it's a waste of perfectly good singledom to choose to plan this stuff that's all going to change when that time actually arrives.
If you are engaged, different story. Plan until your heart's content, enjoy this time, because it's probably the last time that you will ever be able to convince anyone that a product made from only flour, sugar, eggs, and butter should cost no less than $1,000.
I say all this because I was looking for a bridesmaid dress that I will be wearing this upcoming summer (which I am super excited about, congrats again) on the web and with my infinately limited knowledge of these things, I assumed that David's Bridal would have everything. Mistake #1.
Mistake #2. I thought that a little paroozing wouldn't hurt anyone, so I clicked on an eye catching little white diddy, and low and behold...I became "One of THOSE girls". It was brief, but for about 5 minutes, I let myself fall in love with a dress. A DRESS! My sanity was quickly restored when I looked down at my naked left hand and promptly dug my heel into the dirt and did an about face right out of the cyber prison of David's Bridal.
Mistake #3. Writing this experience down- it always seems to make something a bigger deal than it is.
So here it is. The only thing that has caused my heart to skip a beat and taken my breath away in the last year.
